Note for:   Linnie Ola Stone,   19 Oct 1888 - 19 Mar 1968         Index
Miss Linnie, as she was called, was Zella's sister. When Zella was unable
to take care of her children, Juanita, Bonita, Virgil, and Ishmel following her
husbands death, she gave Juanita to her sister Linnie to raise. Ishmal and
Virgil were placed in the state orphans home in Corsicana. Bonita was also
placed in the home for a short period, she became sick and was picked up by
Zella and was later placed in a mental hospital in Abilene Tx. where she stayed untill her death. Virgil entered the Navy during WWII, he was killed during the battle for Midway. Ishmal married Edna Wilson, had two sons, David and Tommy, and remained in Corsicana.

My mother, Juanita, married Ralph L. McKenzie and had three children, myself
Don Earl, Charlotte Lee, and Jacqueline Yvonne. At six months of age my
father was transferred to Ohio, with Sinclair Oil Co., Miss Linnie, who I always called Momma, again took care of my mother and me. After my father was able to send for us, we all moved to Ohio for one year. We returned to Corsicana and bought two houses on adjoining lots. Actually we bought three adjoining lots with one house and moved the second smaller house to the lot directly to the rear of the original house. This is the house Momma "Miss Linnie" and I lived in, She is the one who actually raised me and my mother. Although she never had kids of her own, we were her kids in every sence of the word. She was one of a kind, giving, loving and kind. She died in 1968 while I was in the Air Force. She was as proud of me as I was of her. I still miss her..
